Described by someone who knows him well as "Upside down, inside out and everything in between," there is little doubt that Brian started out as he meant to continue by appearing feet first at birth.
Brian, a first cousin of the late Dudley Moore (his father and Dudley's mother being brother and sister), has led an extraordinarily active and interesting life. He has been inquisitive, observant and entrepreneurial throughout.
The trajectory of his adult life recounted in his first book, "A Law Unto Myself", is based on a formative childhood that, thanks to his elephantine memory, is described in these memoirs.
It also describes the way in which the Second World War, the social changes that resulted from it, and post-war austerity affected the lives of children born, like himself, in the 1930s - and how their experiences shaped their attitudes and desires for a better future.
Brian was awarded the MBE in 1995, for outstanding service to the community.
