Healing

Hurt. Pain. Turmoil. "I need you to heal." Racism. Colorism. Violence. "I need you to smile." Crime. Depression. Oppression. "Hold you head up." Slander. Slaughter. Slavery. "It is what it is". Add that to family death, divorce, baby mama drama, employment. The daily obstacles a black man has to overcome is limitless. We have to go day in and day out as if nothing is bothering us. As soon as we show a crack in our armor, we are scrutinize for being weak. Publicly shamed for our vulnerabilities. So we keep our armor on. Chins up. Protect that little boy in us that was never given an healthy platform to express his emotions. Where does that get us? Labeled as heartless, lack of compassion, incapable of communicating our emotions. What's the reason? So the transparency we provided can be used as a weapon against us in the future. Tack on the police brutality, injustice justice, and social pressures despite the amount of inequalities we are faced with. How in the hell can a black man heal in this environment? I've been to Afghanistan and get more PTSD about being a black man. Despite all of this, I can speak for most black men. We wouldn't change who we are for the world. Having a high level of resilience is a way of life. Where do we go from here? How do we better support our mental health in a place where compassion and empathy for us is limited to none. Let's focus on what healing from a black mans perspective looks like. How do we overcome to ensure our mind, heart, body, and soul is as sound as possible to continue this path of healing. Maybe this can give us a better participation grade in this thing we called life.
