Sent on a mission of reconnaissance into the Kishkindha forest, Śrī Hanumān approached the warrior princes Rāma and Lakshmana in disguise, only to have his profound devotion instantly reawaken upon seeing the Supreme Lord. The words he spoke were not the calculated intelligence of a spy, but the spontaneous, heartfelt praise of a pure soul.

Shri Rāma was so astonished by Hanumān's flawless delivery that He praised him as a rare tri-vedi, one who had mastered the Rig, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas. So persuasive was this eloquence that Rāma stated: "Whose heart is not moved by these wonderful words... Even an enemy, who has his sword uplifted, would be touched by such words".

Hanumān's appearance, recognized immediately by Rāma as a deliverer of good things, was the critical moment that secured the alliance and set in motion all of Rāma's objectives. As the gatekeeper to Shri Rāma's kingdom, Hanumān's example teaches that the ultimate purpose of speech is to praise the Supreme Lord.
