Read this book with care: it will provide you with clarity on the topic of depression. With the knowledge shared here, you will learn how to take care of someone with depression and how to stay away from this affliction that affects so many people.

This e-book brings to you, in the first chapter, the concept of what depression is and how it can occur, the scenario and conditions involved, or the factors that can favor its emergence (and there are quite a few).

Continuing, it also addresses the levels of intensity and its main symptoms, which can arise and develop in those who are depressed. Symptoms are generally varied, but each depressive condition usually has five symptoms that can stand out.

What are the most common symptoms? What are the types of depression and their characteristics? In the second chapter, you will see that there are at least 8 most recurrent types of depression:

• Recurrent Depressive Disorder;
• Bipolar Affective Disorder;
• Major Depressive Disorder or Classic Depression;
• Seasonal Affective Disorder;
• Postpartum Depression;
• Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD);
• Psychotic Depression;
• Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder.

In the third chapter, depression is addressed in different phases of life: childhood, adolescence, and old age. It presents how depression occurs in these phases, as well as what can worsen the situation. It also discusses depression in relation to a person's gender and other illnesses that can lead to depression.

Usually, children develop depression when they experience significant loss or trauma, such as the loss or separation of parents, as well as unstable and unloving relationships. The occurrence of depression in childhood is more difficult to diagnose.

In adolescence, depression can arise as an untreated illness or a relapse. It can occur due to excessive use of social media, which can lower self-esteem and promote feelings of worthlessness. It can also result from exposure to bullying, violence (sexual, domestic, or emotional), abandonment, and other potential reasons.

Elderly individuals, on the other hand, often become depressed due to difficulties in social relationships, the reduction of their social roles, and a tendency towards loneliness. Pain and a lack of sleep or appetite are also very common symptoms among the elderly with depression.

In all cases, except for depression in children, depression can occur when there is a history of depression in the previous phase, such as in the case of an untreated illness or a relapse.

In the fourth chapter, the positive and negative impacts that the internet has on an individual's life are discussed: as positive impacts, there is the rapid exchange of information on social networks. However, as negative impacts, there is the spread of insecurity, decreased self-esteem, isolation, and the weakening of human relationships. There are factors that distort reality, making the environment even more polluted: Fake News, Cyberbullying, and Hoaxes.

Chapter five presents the types of treatments available for depression. Treatment can be prescribed with therapy alone when the case is milder. When it is more severe, manipulated antidepressants are adopted. In very severe cases, other types of manipulated substances are used in conjunction with antidepressants.

Recently, a new type of manipulated substance called Esketamine (Spravato) was introduced to the market. Among its main benefits is the time saved due to the rapid effect provided by the manipulated substance. However, its cost is very high.
