Gecko & Robot

Gecko is a quiet and timid creature. His fear puts him in a perilous position. He will be forced to face his fear and challenged to trust Robot, the reason for Gecko's fear in the first place. This book highlights the importance of challenging preconceived notions and implicit bias and makes the argument that we are stronger and better together.

"What an AMAZING book! In a simple and child-friendly manner, it addresses important issues around implicit bias in a time when this could not be more relevant. After reading it the first time through and wondering how much he was understanding, I asked my 6-year-old son what the book was all about. He stated plainly, "the lizard [gecko] was afraid of of the robot because he was different, but the robot wasn't scary; he was nice." From there, this book was helpful in sparking a wonderful conversation about diversity and the importance of recognizing our biases and privilege. Abstract concepts like these can be difficult to tackle with young children, yet the author and illustrator found a way to do so simply, with captivating text and colorful pictures to boot.
