On the night of April 14, 1912, as the RMS Titanic plowed through a calm, starlit sea, one man's sharp eyes spotted the shadow that would change history. From the crow's nest high above the deck, Frederick Fleet rang the bell and gave the warning: "Iceberg, right ahead!" Minutes later, the "unsinkable" ship met her fate.

But who was Frederick Fleet?

Iceberg, Right Ahead: The Life of Frederick Fleet tells the forgotten story of the man forever bound to the world's most famous maritime disaster. Born into poverty and abandonment in Liverpool, Fleet grew up with no family, no security, and no future but the sea. From harsh boyhood voyages on small merchant brigs to steady service with the White Star Line, he lived a life of duty, silence, and endurance. His keen eyesight earned him a place as lookout on the Titanic's maiden voyage; an assignment that would define him forever.

Surviving the sinking, Fleet testified at the official inquiries, only to fade into obscurity. For decades he continued as a working seaman, his name whispered among sailors but forgotten by the world ashore. His later years were marked by poverty, loneliness, and the inescapable weight of memory. He died in 1965, his grave unmarked until admirers of Titanic history restored his name.

Drawing on the events of his life, this biography follows Fleet from orphan to seaman, from the crow's nest to the witness stand, from survival to decline. It is the story of an ordinary sailor caught in an extraordinary tragedy; a man who lived in silence but whose watch on one April night became part of history forever.
