Celestia Greyscale and her grandmother, her beloved Nanay, are abducted by the Riantis Royal Guard, triggering a series of events that awaken Celestia's dormant elemental powers. After her grandmother is brutally murdered, Celestia escapes through a mysterious portal to the secret Krovlon Kingdom, where she collides with Prince Kaelon Aurelius and discovers her bond with a rare dragon, Phairmir. 

In order to stay safe and blend in an unknown kingdom with dangerous politics and forbidden, ancient magic, Celestia is forced to enroll in the Dragon Defender Academy, quickly excelling and drawing attention from students, faculty, and even the royal family. She forms a tentative alliance with Ryker Aurelius and his healer prodigy mate, Kiaris Nysewander, whose emerging seer abilities coincide with Celestia's arrival. 

To prove herself a worthy Dragon Defender, Celestia must prepare for the Trials of the Bond-an intense test of strength, skill, and magic- all the while navigating the mystery of her powers and the truth behind the portal that brought her there. 

As court politics intensify, the ambitious and ruthless Royal Hand, Elara Aurelius, poses a threat to both Celestia and the throne. Meanwhile, Celestia and Prince Kaelon grow closer, only to be torn apart by secrets, royal expectations, and the forbidden nature of their bond which appears through god-blessed sacred mating burns Kaelon tries to keep hidden.

Their complicated connection is tested when Celestia is nearly killed by mythical creatures, leading to a revelation about her grandmother's ancient blood and a new pact with Kiaris. Unfortunately, this alliance is made of glass and it takes one glimpse of a vision for Celestia's fragile trust to be broken.

Tensions rise and after facing constant betrayal, Celestia and Phairmir plan to flee Krovlon and find their own way to Riantis Kingdom, avoiding impending heartbreak and the brutal challenges the Trials will bring. However, the night they plan to escape, Celestia is cornered by her former allies with the alarming news of Kaelon having gone missing. Conveniently, this is the same moment that Celestia can no longer feel her bond to Phairmir, sending her directly to the Dragon Grove for answers.

When Kaelon's betrayal comes to light, the chaos forces them to work together to protect what remains. With Elara arriving on the back of a slain battle dragon, Kaelon helps Celestia flee through the portal-only for her to discover that her family in Riantis has been murdered, leaving her with nothing but vengeance and heartbreak.
