August, 79 CE. In the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum, the citzens are living their daily lives completely unaware of the disaster that is about to befall them. Mount Vesuvius, the famous volcano has been distantly waking up. Saturninus is a pottery painter who lives alone, and spends his days selling his art in the forum. Khendu is an Egyptian travler and tradesman who just came back from a long journey, arriving in the Bay of Neapolis. Galla is an elderly baker with deep intuition with the gods, who believes a great change is coming. Milo, a young man with a troubled home life, wanders the city in the hot summer days, and meets Saturninus in a surprising turn of fate. These are just a few of the people whose lives will be affected by the infamous event as Vesuvius begins to erupt. The day after the Vulcanalia festival in the city, the mountain explodes violently and the world around Herculaneum and Pompeii changes forever. This is a story of love and tragedy during a time when the gods prevailed, and the power of nature shaped the history of the Roman lands without mercy.
