Epistle of the Apostles

Have you ever wondered why the earliest Christians were so desperate to record the secret conversations between the resurrected Christ and his disciples, and what lost prophecies those discussions might hold?

The Epistle of the Apostles stands as one of the most remarkable and revealing texts of early Christian apocrypha. Written in the second century, this dynamic manuscript is presented as a joint letter from the eleven apostles to the global church, detailing a series of miraculous encounters and secret dialogues they had with Jesus after his resurrection but before his ascension into heaven. Long lost to history until its dramatic rediscovery in Coptic and Ethiopic translations, this text provides an unparalleled window into the spiritual battles of the ancient church.

Far more than just a collection of sayings, this epistle is a fierce theological battleground. As early Gnostic movements began to rise-claiming that Christ was a purely spiritual being who only appeared to have a physical body-the anonymous author of this text fired back. The narrative vividly details the disciples touching the physical wounds of their resurrected teacher, firmly establishing the reality of his bodily incarnation. Furthermore, the text is packed with extraordinary apocalyptic visions, descriptions of Christ's descent into the underworld, prophecies concerning the fate of the earth, and the ultimate judgment of humanity.

This comprehensive modern translation brings the intense, vivid prose of the Epistle of the Apostles to a new generation of readers. It carefully unpacks the esoteric symbols and urgent theological arguments that shaped the foundational beliefs of early believers, making complex ancient thought highly accessible today.
