An ancient sorcerer called the Ash Man is consuming the Wildlands region by region, turning everything to ash and shadow. Five guardians fight to protect their lands, but they're losing. They need help. They need the Coin Bearer. They need Luke.

With only Shadow, a mysterious shapeshifting fox, to guide him, Luke must journey through five magical regions. He'll face armies of shadow creatures, navigate deadly ruins, and learn to wield fire magic he barely understands. He'll unite clans that have been enemies for centuries and confront an evil that has existed for millennia.

But the Ash Man is always one step ahead, and with each region that falls, he grows stronger. Luke is just a kid who moved to a new town. He doesn't know how to save the world. He's not even sure he's brave enough to try.

Yet the Wildlands chose him. The coin found him. And now two worlds depend on a boy who only wanted to make friends and feel like he belonged somewhere.
