Amid a memory archive built from nearly ten thousand negatives, we seek a narrative thread that ties together an era and youth, trace the genesis and creation process of certain works, which embody the visions of their creators and bear the traces left by countless young people who once lived through those times.
The 1990s was an era of rock and roll, yet few can clearly define what it truly was. It was neither an immense, intangible ideology nor a spectacular, shocking event. Instead, it was a surging force brimming with confrontation and vibrancy, an impulse intertwined with social reality and profound inner upheaval. It blended new forms of perception and practice, alongside catharsis, even darkness, and a quest for self-identity.
For those of us who have journeyed from that bygone world to the present, perhaps through these layered images, we can rediscover the world and rediscover ourselves once more.

Gao Yuan is a legendary contemporary female photographer and a firsthand witness to the golden decade of Chinese rock music. With her camera, she has documented nearly all the pivotal events and iconic figures in Chinese rock music from the late 20th century to the present. Her works have set the aesthetic and cultural trends of their time. Today, Gao Yuan remains committed to her pursuit of music and photography. She travels ceaselessly across the globe, capturing fleeting, extraordinary moments through her lens.

高原，当代富有传奇色彩的女性摄影师， 也是中国摇滚乐黄金十年的亲历者与见证人。她用相机记录了从上个世纪开始到现在几乎所有重要的中国摇滚音乐事件和人物，她的作品引领了时代的潮流和审美。今天的高原依然没有停止对音乐和摄影的追求，不停地穿梭在世界各地用镜头记录着稍纵即逝的精彩瞬间。
