Edge of War

He wanted to disappear. Instead, he became the last shield between two boys and an approaching war.

Garran Vale has spent years trying to forget the sword.

Scarred by battles he refuses to discuss, the former warrior has finally found the quiet life he wanted in a forgotten village at the edge of a troubled kingdom. He buys a ruined roadside inn, repairs the roof, brews ale, and hires two orphan boys who need food, shelter, and somewhere to belong.

For Garran, it is supposed to be the end of the road.

Then the travelers begin arriving.

Refugees bring stories of fallen cities, shattered armies, and creatures pouring across the northern frontier. Trolls and Goblins march behind the armies of a kingdom at war, while Ghouls follow in their wake. Soldiers disappear. Villages burn. And rumors spread that two young boys connected to the fallen royal household have vanished.

Garran wants nothing to do with any of it.

But someone is searching for the boys.

When armed men come to the inn, Garran is forced to reveal the skills he buried years ago. When the attackers return, they discover that the quiet innkeeper is something far more dangerous than he appears.

And when the inn itself is set ablaze, Garran realizes the truth:

The war has found him.

With enemies closing in and an ancient conflict spreading across the kingdom, Garran must choose between the peaceful life he fought to build and the dangerous road he thought he had left forever.

Then a mysterious red-haired warrior arrives wearing chain mail and carrying a sword.

She knows Garran.

She knows the boys.

And she has come to take them north.
