On a blustery night in October 1932, thirty-six-year-old Guntheir climbs his childhood treehouse to forever escape the nightmare of World War 1. For sixteen years, July 1, 1916, has haunted him. With the support of his grandfather, Guntheir steps into the past, reflecting on poignant memories that have shaped him into the man he has become. He revisits childhood innocence, death, soul-deep friendships, and forbidden love that even now carries him through the darkest moments. He yearns to move forward, adapt, and live. However, to do so requires that he revisit the trenches where the war destroyed him and everything he understood. The day when nineteen thousand British soldiers were cheated of their dreams, never to move again...
