For as long as fifteen-year-old Nazem can remember, Palestine has been in military and political conflict with the State of Israel. Growing up in Gaza, he learned early on what it meant to live under the rule of a foreign authority. Curfews. Midnight home invasions. Harassment and random interrogations. School riots and soldier retaliation. Constant skirmishes between resistance fighters and Israeli soldiers. It was a never-ending gauntlet.
So he shouldn't be surprised when two PLO fighters force their way into his family home, seeking refuge from pursuing Israeli forces. Yet Nazem and his mother find themselves greatly troubled. If they house the fighters and are discovered by patrolling forces, they could suffer the consequences-interrogation or death. But if they oust the intruders and kick them to the street, the young men will be killed anyway.
Deeply tragic and morbidly insightful, Dusk to Dusk: Gaza, The Deep Wounds of Occupation not only chronicles the lives of a Gazan family within the span of twenty-four hours, but also delves into the morality of the interreligious conflict, offering commentary on the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the genocide of its people through history into the present.
