Suicide, by many accounts, has reached the level of an epidemic not only in the U.S., but worldwide. It is estimated that in 2017, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., but among people ages 10-34, it was the second leading cause. This gets even worse when you realize that only one in twenty-five suicide attempts is successful. The specific reasons for suicide vary widely based upon each individual. Some reasons given include guilt, shame, bullying, a sense of worthlessness, depression, addiction, inability to deal with trauma, grief, or inability to deal with a loss of ability, power, wealth, or identity. Whatever the individual reason is they all have one thing in common. The individual has reached a point where they have lost hope that things can get better, hope that there is a purpose or hope that what is better can be obtained by them.
