This alternate history novel explores scenario where in 1980s, South African leadership doesn't pass to liberal FW de Klerk, instead Afrikaner hardliners take control. Apartheid didn't end in 1990. causing further internal tensions and outside isolation and pressure. But still society transform, creating both black and white elites, which coupled with technological advancement and economic growth create new relations inside society. Apartheid is not dissolved by political decision but preservation of pre 1990. system is impossible. But this transformation is mostly led by pragmatism and economy, not by ideology.
Book "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" explores still controversial historic era from position of alternate history which is much different from actual history but still there are paralels leading in simmilar direction but with different outcome.
