United States Army Lieutenant Craig Benson finds himself separated from his unit in a country ravaged by insurrection and war. "The Dark" is a book whose genre comes closest to what is called "Noir." The word "Noir" is taken from the French word meaning darkness. Noir is a category of fictional characters who are struggling against disillusionment, pessimism and despair due to circumstances both of their own making and those beyond their control. "The Dark" consists of intricate plots that challenge the main and supporting characters to their maximum and where life is measured in seconds. It is a very dark journey as Lieutenant Craig Benson and his female companion, Kate Bryant, struggle to reach one of the remaining free states in a country divided by insurrection and war.
