In spite of the difficulty presented by a walnut's hard shell, CRACKING WALNUTS presents the reader with an amusing array of creative solutions that lead our stalwart student of invention on a quest and lifelong pursuit to satisfy his curious craving for their taste, and his later appetite for collecting contrivances for their disposition.

Like father, like son - not to be outdone, when the star of our story has grown, his son sets his sights on a surprising concluding quest of his own.
