Counting Coup

It's the week of the Little Bighorn Ride, a ceremonial reenactment of the Oglala Lakota's defeat of George Custer and his army. The tribe has asked Deanie and Dan's niece, a massage therapist who specializes in caring for horses, to come back out to the rez and prepare (all right, spoil) the prized horse, a seventeen-and-a-half-hand tank of a racehorse officially named Beast in the Ring, but known affectionately as Buddy. Sam, a council elder and the one who nicknamed her the Horse Whisperer, has come to welcome back this honored young woman ... and he's brought his nephew along. Aaron White Feather has heard the stories of the Horse Whisperer, but when he finally meets the legend, she is not what he was expecting. At first, that was a good thing. Then, it was a bad thing. Then, it was a very, very good thing.

There's just one problem though.

She's already got a boyfriend.

Counting Coup: The Story of a Horse Whisperer is the story of a woman who is known and loved by everyone around her ... except herself. This is the story of a woman who has forgotten who she is. This is the story of a woman who has to learn that reducing herself to become what someone else wants her to be is the recipe for heartbreak. This is the story of a woman who, when she meets a man who sees her--truly sees and understands her--is faced with a choice; and in order to make that choice, she has to learn what it means to be free.
