COVID-19 forced many into prolonged lockdowns, into interiors where the walls that separated our apparently distinct and individual realities were blurred into a collective miasma. This was the first virus to go viral, a visceral symptom of how a disease can manifest itself psychically, as well as biologically. Fake news, disinformation, conspiracy theories and a deep mistrust of traditional institutions proliferated as the pandemic spread and mutated.
Written under lockdown, Corona Time is a reckoning with things as they are, how they have come to be and what kind of legacy they will leave. Delving into parallels between historical, literary and mythical sources, it explores the multifarious influences of disease on the human imagination, from Biblical plagues and the Black Death to a dystopian future of virus-carrying robots.
Richard Leiber, aka Richard Leviathan, is the singer-songwriter with Neofolk band, Ostara. He has previously published a volume of poems, the Odes.
