Conflicts, A Novel by G. Burns Hamilton

In a ruthless African dictatorship, crossing the President can be fatal. James Mackenzie, an expat consultant, is jailed with no way out. An email from Sabi Issa, James Mackenzie's African partner, sent to two of James' old army colleagues sets in motion an attempt to free their friend. Time is critical because no one survives the ancient prison in Doadja. When diplomacy and bribery don't work out, they bring in a younger generation of soldiers and move to direct action. Sabi brings local knowledge and an Africa-wide network. Alida, an army officer who has moved on to civilian life, brings forensic accounting skills. Dan and Max, special forces officers, bring their own unique capabilities.

 Along the way, they discover that their friend has a more complex background than they imagined, and they must face conflicts between loyalty, justice, and each other.

Hamilton's background and his many years of work in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, Mauritania, and Nigeria bring this action-driven novel to life.

The Author

G. Burns Hamilton served as an army engineer captain in the Canadian Army and as an Assistant Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada. He also been a lecturer at both McGill and Concordia universities. Burns has been Canada's representative on NATO's Civil Aviation Planning Committee and Planning Board for Ocean Shipping. The consulting company that he founded and led for 25, Sypher, has advised governments and private agencies in eighty countries, including many in Africa.

Burns lives in Ottawa, Ontario.
