In the face of globalisation and constant encounters of different languages and cultures in everyday life, interpreting services have become inevitable. Interpreters are more and more demanded and the expectations from them are incredibly high. It is desired that the message they translate remains faithful, linguistically correct and presented in a professional way. Nevertheless, many underestimate this hard task interpreters face. This work tries to show how many different skills and competences are necessary for the ability to interpret and tries to prove that mastering a foreign language, even on a very good level, does not suffice to be a good interpreter.
