After far too many hard-fought battles as a youth in south central LA, a soldier in Iraq, and a litigator in the California legal system, Cleotis 'Clay' Turner, a.k.a. Cockroach, is ready to retreat to his sanctuary, a humble beach-side coffee stand called Roach's. But when the only military commander for whom he has any respect whatsoever suggests that he attend a mysterious interview, he sets his well justified cynicism aside and accepts. His meeting with the astonishing government operative Surya Kata leads to the discovery of the rising star biopharmaceutical company Chemato Incorporated. Chemato Inc. has created unprecedented genetically modified tomatoes engineered to produce a vast trove of pharmaceuticals, some legal and some otherwise. Under the veil of a faux biopharmaceutical competitor, Blunt Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Clay, Surya, and their team dig into the machinations of Chemato Inc. and identify a nefarious GMO tomato cartel intent upon dominating the illicit fentanyl market. But far worse, further investigation leads to the discovery of a diabolical plot by a foreign adversary to destroy the western world - with tomatoes!
