Eight-year-old Sophie is the youngest of three girls of a soon to be large family in the town of Yatesboro. Intrigue, mystery, and curiosity surround her as she connects with good friends and family, living in this small coal mining town in Western Pennsylvania in the Shwanee Valley.

An obsession for a boy less fortunate than her, consumes her thoughts as she navigates life coming of age. An atrocious concern for his well being becomes intermixed with her friendships and decisions she makes.
