Clipped

The strobe lights flickered around me until the exit sign blurred and I couldn't focus on it anymore. Stumbling blindly, I squinted against the harsh glare, only to come to a stop when I realized that the stranger was no longer following me at a distance. They were closer than I'd thought. My heart thudded against my chest, mimicking the tempo of the footsteps quickly catching up to me. Each flash of the strobes brought them closer until I could almost feel their warm breath on the back of my neck. A violent shiver raked through my spine as I stood there, immobilized by fear. It's just a gag. A trick of the lights, I coaxed myself. The lights flashed again, and the hooded figure darted past me. I spun around quickly only to see that no one was there. "Who's in here!" I shouted at the mirror, watching my reflection scream back at me. My body shook with panic, and I didn't wait for a reply. I started sprinting through the narrow walkways, my hands were stinging from the impact of running into the mirrors, but I kept trying. I had a sickly assurance in my gut that whoever was trailing me wasn't a friend. I had to get out.
