Movement disorders represent a heterogeneous field of Neurology that includes a wide variety of diseases. Phenomenologically, such disturbances are classically distinguished into hyperkinetic and hypokinetic disorders. Clinical evaluation is the gold standard for the diagnosis and management of the majority of movement disorders, but diagnostic criteria continue to suffer from a high error rate. Novel technologies could help to enhance the management of the diagnostic and monitoring process. On the therapeutic level, the current treatments are only symptomatic with the main aim of improving patients' quality of life.
