This book offers a critically-informed exposition and analysis of the new 'Child First' model of positive youth justice that transcends traditional (dated) welfare, justice and risk approaches to provide a principled, child-friendly and evidence-based r/evolution in contemporary youth justice. Child First justice and its innovative series of tenets (e.g. seeing children as children, building prosocial identity for positive outcomes, collaborating with children, diverting from stigma) significantly progresses and enhances current and future understandings of, and responses to, offending by children in conceptual, theoretical, policy and practical terms. Child First has been adopted as the guiding principle for all policy and practice across the Youth Justice System for England and Wales, is becoming the key reform principle for youth justice in Northern Ireland, and is increasingly influential as a shaper of policy and practice in a host of western justice systems.
