Catalogue of Painting

"Catalogue of Painting" is an extensive scholarly record of the permanent painting collection housed within the Detroit Institute of Arts. Compiled during a period of significant growth for the institution, this volume offers a detailed overview of the museum's holdings, spanning diverse eras and geographic regions. Readers will find comprehensive entries on masterworks from the Italian, Dutch, Flemish, French, and English schools, as well as an important collection of American paintings.

This catalog serves as an essential resource for art historians, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in the provenance and historical context of one of the premier art collections in the United States. Through its systematic documentation, the work captures the curatorial vision of the early 20th century and highlights the acquisition of major works that define the museum's reputation. As a foundational reference for the study of Western art history, "Catalogue of Painting" provides valuable insights into the evolution of public art collections and the preservation of global artistic heritage.
