Burned Freight

Detective Marcus Vance investigates the aftermath of a Kansas City warehouse fire, knowing the recent incident is far from an electrical accident. The incident obscures physical evidence, but it also illuminates a massive financial maneuvering operation hidden within the ashes of Burned Freight. Vance realizes the fires are deliberate distractions designed to protect a regional syndicate. He partners with forensic accountant Toby Lin to reconstruct the financial history of the damaged properties. Their analysis reveals a network of unregistered cash processing stations operating under the direct control of powerful executive Declan Corvis.

To penetrate the organization, Vance recruits Leo Finch, a transport driver facing minor municipal infractions. Finch provides critical inside information about the daily collection of undocumented revenues, pointing directly to Corvis's lieutenant, Nina Rostova. She coordinates the movement of physical cash through legitimate storefronts and shell entities. Finch supplies the exact locations of active drop sites and the detailed schedules of the transport crews. Armed with this intelligence, Vance and Police Captain David Briggs prepare to execute a series of coordinated audits to dismantle the enterprise.

The investigation takes a dangerous turn when a compromised clerk tips off Corvis about the ongoing police surveillance. Suspecting a betrayal within his inner circle, the syndicate boss orders Rostova to identify the informant immediately. Rostova detains Finch from his apartment and questions him in an abandoned industrial park. When Finch refuses to identify Vance, she forces him into permanent hiding in an effort to intimidate the department. The incident escalates the conflict and prompts Briggs to allocate additional tactical units, despite intense pressure from city officials to minimize public disturbance.

Vance and Lin locate a secure digital database hidden on a remote server in a suburban commercial office building. The encrypted files contain comprehensive records of the financial routes, including a massive upcoming transfer of cash. The data indicates that Rostova personally oversees the movement of the cash at a municipal freight terminal on the edge of the city. Vance uses this information to plan a targeted sting operation, positioning undercover officers at the terminal while monitoring the perimeter with surveillance drones.

Rostova arrives at the terminal with a convoy of armored vehicles and security personnel. As her crew begins loading the cash onto a cargo train, Vance initiates the operation. When Corvis realizes he is trapped, he attempts to wipe the data on his electronic devices to prevent the police from accessing his files. Vance enters the room and apprehends him before he can clear the remaining data, but the confiscated drive contains a final encrypted file.
