Northern Saskatchewan, 1954. Korean War veteran Dean Corrigan arrives at the seasonal fire base in Lac la Ronge and joins the Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers, a group of firefighters parachuted into remote wildfires beyond the reach of roads.
Under the guidance of experienced jumper Hollis Vance, Dean learns to trust his equipment, understand the fire, and depend on the men beside him. He also grows close to Ruth Calloway, a fire tower lookout who recognizes the grief and guilt he still carries from Korea.
As the summer becomes dangerously dry, Dean's willingness to sacrifice himself puts more than his own life at risk. When a late August fire turns against the crew, he must decide whether he came north to begin living again or simply to find a meaningful way to die.
Burn Line: A Smoke Jumpers Story is a historical novel about brotherhood, grief, sacrifice, and finding the courage to choose life after war.
