Written over twenty years of retirement, the stories in this collection reflect aspects of the author's life and experiences.
The Brewer's Calendar, a novella in twelve chapters, spans a year in the life of a pub called The Brewer's Arms. It concerns the publican and his family, his staff and some of his regular and often entertaining pub guests and is based on the author's weekly evenings, with a friend, in a local bar.
Then come stories that are based on the author's life starting with her own family's experience as refugees from Austria in 1938 and finishing with Plague Notes - thoughts and experiences from the 2020 Covid-19 epidemic. Following this are stories inspired by the author's experiences in a career in social work: work with families, children and older people. Finally just imaginative short stories - often written for short story competitions!
