The first woman in her family to be an engineer, Sunita loved her career in the Canadian technology sector - especially the teamwork, community, and friendships that developed. However, there was a darker side of corporate life to navigate: a power-and-profit-driven one marked by widespread burnout, questionable ethics, and toxic leaders.

Finding balance, resilience, and integrity became urgent as Sunita tried to be a good leader and mother. Standing up for herself and others closed some doors and opened others. Her heart and career were finally aligned when her company selected her to lead programs of mindfulness, coaching, and supporting Indigenous education.

Even the best situations can have their dark side, and the job stress escalated until a crisis of body, mind, and spirit led to a terrible accident. Sunita realized she had to walk away from the coworkers and clients she cared so deeply for. Desperate to find her joyful self, she joined a group of strangers on a five-day silent mindfulness meditation retreat where she was exposed to Buddhist practices and profound compassion. Within that space Sunita found what she had been seeking all along - inner peace.
