Body Image Disorders

Body Image Disorders brings neuropsychoanalysis into dialogue with phenomenology, cognitive neuroscience, and clinical practice and examines how bodily experience is organized through desire, anxiety, shame, conflict, and internalized relationships. The chapters explore the complex interplay between the conscious and unconscious elements that shape our body image, from intersubjective experiences and emotional responses to perceptual processes and sociocultural influences. The book examines clinical manifestations including eating disorders and dysmorphic conditions to the modern phenomenon of body image addiction in social media. Integrating neuropsychoanalytic research with clinical understanding, the contributors present innovative frameworks for conceptualizing and treating body image disturbances. Body Image Disorders integrates neuroscience with psychoanalytic theories of embodiment and clinical technique which will be of great interest to clinicians, researchers, advanced students, psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and to all practitioners working clinically with body image.
