Everyone in the small city of Kennedy knows the Fox family is strange. They're quiet, they keep to themselves, and there's something simply so odd about them that it makes people talk. Cypher Fox and her mother, Catarina, are the only two Fox family members left in town, and yet the rumors and whispers haven't stopped.
Kids at school avoid Cypher, they're afraid of her, they think she's...weird. They stare when they think she isn't looking, they whisper when they think she can't hear. It doesn't help that she walks around with an eye patch over her right eye for a reason that nobody knows.
You see, the locals are right. There
is something off with her family. And Cypher is living proof. She feels the emotions of others, she keeps her right eye covered because not only is it blue and not brown like the left, but she'd be plagued with the visual of everyone's aura around her if she didn't.
But of course, she can't tell anyone that. They'd think she was crazy.
Cypher is in her senior year of high school, she just wants to be invisible and graduate so that she can leave her terrible hometown and her ghost of a mother behind. But then a new boy moves into town, and he's hellbent on being Cypher's friend. And just when the two start getting closer than she thought possible, Cypher starts feeling like she's being watched, and then she comes across strange newcomers to Kennedy who might be more than they seem.
And then a truly dreadful person arrives in town with a terrifying ability, and Cypher's life quickly begins to spiral.
