Behind the Lock

The planet Terra has had catastrophic floods throughout its existence driving half of humanity underground. A colony, known as the Subterrans, have been surviving in underground caves for centuries throughout the world. Society in the caves, and the creatures within it, have had to evolve to handle confined spaces and limited resources. Complex cities connected by an intricate system of trains mirror the surface they left behind. Shops, hospitals, homes, and farms now all lie tucked safely away underground in the top of the upper mantle of the planet Terra. Each of the five cave colonies has its own unique identity reflecting the surface they left behind. The people left above ground were wiped out in the last great flood that lasted for 400 years. Or, so they thought.

For weeks, strange tremors have rocked the caves throughout Terra. After a nasty fall during one of these tremors, Dr. Anne Wooten, a librarian, discovers a locked door in the central archives for the cave systems. Behind it is more than a mystery; it is a lost history of the Terran world that will redefine the Subterran society. Anne has spent her life studying the caves, yet the mysteries found in a blood-soaked book challenge everything she knows. After consulting her friend the local apothecary Hunter and the daughter of the Southern Caves Chief, Elena, there are only more questions than answers. In the middle of their discovery; a Terran man suddenly arrives from the surface in the caves. Now, the trio will have to decide whether the stories from behind the lock could be true and whether it is worth going to the surface to find out.
