What if the wall between science and religion was never necessary?
For more than a century, educated people have been told they must choose: accept the universe that science describes - vast, ancient, governed by physical laws - or hold to the conviction that reality has a ground, a meaning, and a destination. Science on one side. Faith on the other. The wall between them treated as permanent.
Before the Beginning argues that the wall was a mistake. Not by softening the claims of science, and not by retreating from serious theology. But by showing that when both disciplines are taken with full seriousness, they turn out to be describing the same structured reality from different positions.
The framework at the heart of the book is Primitation Manifestation Theory (PMT) - a new philosophical-theological account of why the universe exists, why it has the character it has, and why it is intelligible at all. PMT begins one step before the Big Bang - not earlier in time, but deeper in kind - identifying five conditions that any structured, intelligible universe must satisfy before any physical laws can operate. These are not theological assumptions. They are the preconditions for science itself.
From those five conditions, the book develops a series of claims that are both philosophically rigorous and theologically serious:
The Big Bang was not an explosion. It was an unveiling - the expression of a structure the universe already possessed, logically complete before the first moment of physical time.
The Love Force is not a metaphor. It is the ontological ground-form of energy itself - resolving what the book calls the ghost problem: every existing model of divine action describes a God structurally outside the physical world. PMT shows the framing was wrong from the start.
Human consciousness is not an accident. It is the universe's most concentrated expression of the rational, relational intentionality that constitutes its deepest ground. The imago Dei is not a pre-scientific myth but a precise ontological description.
The universe has a direction. Measured by complexity science, evolutionary convergence, and thermodynamics, the universe's history is a constrained, ordered, purposive unfolding toward increasing complexity and consciousness.
The book engages the great thinkers in the science-theology dialogue - Polkinghorne, Russell, Barbour, Barrow and Tipler, Teilhard, Wigner, Penrose, Chalmers, Conway Morris - with full scholarly seriousness, before showing where PMT goes further. Six Verse Interludes read Genesis, Job, Proverbs, John, Romans, and Revelation not as pre-scientific mythology but as independent articulations of the same ontological structure PMT describes philosophically.
The book closes where it begins: with you. In a universe called into being by Love, your existence is not an accident and your participation is not incidental. The universe did not improvise its way forward. It unfolded according to a structure it never did not possess.
The morning stars are still singing. And now you know why.
Written for readers who take both science and faith seriously - and have never been satisfied with being told they must choose between them.
