The Basic Recording Manual was first created in 1995 to allow an untrained student to learn the basics of recording and mixing in one weekend. It was written by the former quality control for Motown Records in the 1960s, Bob Dennis. With the change in technology since that time, the text has been updated to reference modern systems by his son, Daniel.
The text still has one goal: To teach the new recordist the basics of recording and mixing so that they will have a guide as to how to get a professional sound with their recording. The chapters include the basics of Sound, Microphone Characteristics and Techniques, Recording, Mixdown (including overcoming hearing limitations), Recording Rap and Hip Hop specifically, and Using Digital Audio Systems.
This text is intended as a introduction to the field but is useful as a quick reference in recording and mixdown.
Included in the text: step by step recording, step by step mixing, and an easy to use recommended frequency chart for equalization.
