It was completely by chance. We met and lost track of each other because . . . well, because I had a horrible ex who thought he had rights to me. Hell, he didn't even have rights to the children we'd made.

Why not? Well, it's not like they were conceived the conventional way. I loved my children dearly, but I did not consent to their conception.

So, when I had to run, I did. Enter Waylon 'Bard' Johnson. He was ready to swoop in and save us and I was in just the right frame of mind to let him.

Of course, having him carry me up and down the stairs when I broke my hip was a bonus I was happy to take advantage of.


Who the hell has a stroke at the age of thirty-three? Me, that's who.

Years in the military, years riding motorcycles and apparently one head injury too many. Who knew that could cause a stroke?

I decided I was lucky. In fact, I was damn lucky. Not only did I survive the stroke, but it brought Cindy Richards back into my life. I had wanted to have her in my life for years, but I'd lost track of her.

Well, now I had found her I was keeping her. And her kids and I wasn't letting any of them go.

No matter what I had to do, they were mine.
