Recorded in five separate parts, necessary due to his disability from a muscle-wasting disorder, the full song runs to over an hour in length, and has been described as "an act of defiance against fate up there with Samson."

Written as an allegorical narrative, the tale takes the protagonists from love to heartbreak, despair to reflection, and makes ports of call at acceptance, remorse, confusion, blame, compromise, and anger.
