An oil company drilling a new well in rural Oklahoma is far from its target depth when the steel-and-tungsten-carbide bit strikes something hard enough to mangle it. When the crew pulls the twisted bit to the surface, they find a small piece of shiny debris lodged between two teeth of the cutting head.

Did the oil company's geologist miss something in his analysis of the subsurface? Under pressure from the company owner, he calls on Doctor Aiden Lewis, head of NASA's Solar System Geology Department, to identify the foreign substance. After holding the puzzling piece of debris, Aiden senses that he may be on the cusp of discovering his lifelong dream-of extraterrestrial life.

Eager to confirm, Aiden travels to the site and lowers a high-def. camera into the drill tube to investigate. As the cam comes into focus, six hundred-eighty-seven feet below the Oklahoma red-dirt surface, Aiden knows, he's not looking at a deeply buried meteor. He cancels his retirement promise to his wife and teenage daughter, both of whom need him now more than ever.

As his personal life begins to fall apart, Aiden and the team of scientists and soldiers he assembles to unearth evidence of a six-million-year-old visitor, while keeping its secret from the world. It's a secret that just may answer a long-standing question about the origins of humankind. Even with the help of an Air Force general, and ultimately the POTUS, can Aiden achieve his goal without sacrificing his wife and daughter?
