Awakening is often described as an ending - the end of ego, fear, and seeking.
But what happens when they remain?
When thirty-six-year-old Lilian meets her friend Anthony for a late lunch, she isn't looking for another lesson in awakening. A year has passed since she first approached the young author after a bookstore signing and told him that his words had helped her through one of the messiest periods of her life.
Now she has a different question.
If she's truly changed, why does so much of being human still feel exactly the same?
The mind still speaks. Desire still arises. Old patterns return. Work, relationships, uncertainty, responsibility, and pain haven't disappeared.
Over two unexpected conversations, Lilian and Anthony begin examining the difference between recognizing what is present and allowing it to control what happens next.
Their conversation moves through guilt and shame, helping and control, boundaries, forgiveness, self-trust, responsibility, and the uncomfortable freedom of making choices without guarantees.
But Anthony doesn't have all the answers.
And increasingly, Lilian discovers that she doesn't need him to.
Because awakening may not be the end of being human.
It may be the moment we stop using our humanity as evidence that something has gone wrong.
