I was born in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of three siblings, to loving parents who had migrated from the Island of Haiti. Our household was filled with the joys of celebrating holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Valentines Day to list the four holidays that stood out the most in my memories. As far back as my mind can recall it was a blissful start to life. However, my journey took a significant turn when, at the age of five, my father moved our family to Santo Domingo in the very capital of the Dominican Republic. It was a place that would etch unforgettable memories into my soul, some pleasant, and others marked by extreme pain. In the forefront of my mind I can list two childhood traumas that stand out far above the rest. One of them left a physical scar on my left inner thigh-a forty one and a half year old reminder of an encounter with a scorching iron. The other left scars a few different places on my arms, four deacade old souvenirs from a dash through French double doors. These experiences built firewalls in my mind, protecting me from the physical pain that I felt. I somehow disassociated my brain from my body and traveled in my mind to a place where I could feel no pain. Come to think about it as I look back over my life now, the place where my mind traveled to, not only became my place to escape the physical pain but this place provided an escape from emotional pain as well. I can only assume that many other people during the difficult and challenging times in their lives, find solace in the sanctuary of their minds. This internal escape not only raises questions about the nature of resilience and the human spirit but also highlights the remarkable ability of the mind to shield us from life's adversities. I can recall many ups and downs along my journey, but the turning point in my life came much later, after marrying the love of my life, having children, and even after the arrival of our grandchildren. People began to comment on how young my wife and I looked, a compliment we'd hear regularly. It was the arrival of our seventh grandchild that prompted me to question the conventional idea of aging. It was then that the concept of "A Hundred Years to Halftime" began to take shape in my mind. My inspiration flows from the family that surrounds me. My wife and I have been blessed with ten beautiful children and nine grandchildren thus far. With each addition to our family, we seem to grow younger in spirit. As we anticipate transitioning from the first quarter of life into the second, the concept of the Halftime Event has become a guiding light, illuminating our path with hope and anticipation. Personal growth for me has been nurtured by the wisdom of motivational speakers and the insights from self-help books on manifestation. Authors like Napoleon Hill and Jim Rohn just to name a couple, have left an indelible mark on my thinking, guiding me toward a renewed mindset and a commitment to living life to its fullest. My goals and aspirations are simple yet profound: to motivate and inspire others to live their best lives, to embrace the idea of a Hundred Years to Halftime, and to awaken the potential within each of us. This book is the embodiment of those aspirations-a journey through life, resilience, and the boundless possibilities that await us all. Join me on this remarkable journey as we explore the concept of living a longer, more fulfilling life-a life where the Halftime Event is not an endpoint but a joyful beginning.
