A Crown of Verdance and Ash

The Verdant Weald has always answered Flaura Gaunt.

Its roots steady her breath. Its moss softens her steps. Through Verdant Resonance, she keeps the forest in balance-not by command, but by listening. By yielding. By knowing when to hold and when to let the wild remain wild.

But the balance is failing.

A cold lattice now moves through the Weald's unseen currents, precise and searching, designed to identify and claim any magic that does not conform. Dark Elf Enforcers slip between the trees with methodical patience, and the forest's silence grows strained, unnatural.

When Zite Dragun collapses at the threshold of her living-wood hut-wounded, hunted, and carrying the weight of a power he refuses to surrender-Flaura is forced into a choice she has spent her life avoiding. To shelter him is to draw the lattice closer. To turn him away is a kind of severance neither of them will survive unchanged.

Zite knows what it means to be erased-cut loose from one's own resonance, stripped down to what the world finds acceptable. He will not submit again. Even if defiance costs him everything.

As the hunt tightens and sanctuary becomes fleeting, Flaura and Zite must move through root and shadow, ash and open sky, each step testing the fragile boundary between protection and possession. The forest offers paths, but no absolution. And the power Flaura keeps buried-the kind that does not ask for consent-stirs in answer.

In a world where balance is enforced and survival demands surrender, A Crown of Verdance and Ash is a story of chosen defiance, shared refuge, and the dangerous question of who gets to decide what must be preserved-and what is allowed to burn.
