Jake Benson is spending the last days of his life in a hospital while his wife, children, brother, old friends, former coworkers, and one man he has refused to forgive for forty years arrive to say goodbye. At the same time, on the other half of the stage, Jake's deceased parents, sister, childhood friends, teacher, coworkers, and even his long-dead dog prepare for his arrival. The living plan a funeral. The dead plan a welcome-home party. Both worlds exist in front of the audience at once, and neither side knows the other is there. The play moves its dramatic focus back and forth through lighting and sound while the "inactive" world continues living silently in the background. As Jake weakens, the two halves begin to echo one another until the final second, when Jake becomes the first person in the entire production to cross the center line.
