People who are living their lives under some or all of these characteristics could benefit from the 12-Step Recovery Program called Adult Children of Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families (ACA or ACoA) and to understand that the foundation of ACA (like other 12-Step Programs) is the Twelve Steps.

But working the Steps is about a willingness to acknowledge that recovery (change, growth, healing) requires the acceptance of the idea that a Higher Power exists and is an existential part of the human condition. And, for that very reason, many of us who have avoided recovery altogether or have only attempted a few meetings and then "walked back out" have extreme difficulty embracing this idea. Their histories with God-with a Higher Power-have only been filled with disappointment, betrayal and confusion.

12 Other Steps asks those who have never considered recovery and those who are struggling as recovery newcomers to look at the Steps from a deeper perspective. Recovery is not a religious program, but a spiritual process that changes our lives in profound ways.

12 Other Steps takes the reader on a journey to understanding the spiritual nature of the Twelve Steps of ACA and the importance of utilizing the steps in our daily lives.
