Leo Tolstoy, the famous Russian writer, one of the giants of world literature. He contributed greatly to the great renaissance that Russian literature witnessed during the nineteenth century. His father was Count Nikolai Tolstoy, and his mother was Princess Volkonskaya, who descended from the Rurik dynasty, the first ruler in the history of Russia. Tolstoy grew up in an aristocratic family, but he rebelled against his class and took many bold stances, such as giving up his wealth and opposing the church. In the last stage of his life, he became more like a moral and religious leader.
