Rain

The famous English novelist Somerset Maugham raises in this novel an issue that is dear to him, and which he has dealt with repeatedly in many works, which is the issue of religion and man's relationship with the Creator, Glory be to Him, and among these works are his novels "e;The Edge of the Razor,"e; "e;The Bondage of Man,"e; and "e;The Colored Mask."e; , and "e;The Seventh Sin."e;The events take place on the tropical islands, where a fanatical priest imposed his control in the name of God. He met a flirtatious prostitute and besieged her until she surrendered to him, then he fell into sin with her (he lusted for her all the time without knowing it), and then he committed suicide and the prostitute screamed that all men are pigs. The hero of the novel wanted to guide the prostitute whom he saw as lost - from his narrow perspective - and because his faith He was false. He fell into sin and punished himself by committing suicide. The novel concludes with this poignant ending that Somerset Maugham wanted: "e;He realized that Davidson had guided him to love this woman, as much as he had gone to extremes in persecuting her... He realized that he was throwing himself into the arms of sin at the time he was struggling to save this woman from its clutches. He realized that the man who struggled to save the prostitute from the darkness of sin and purify her from the filth of vice had lost his resolve at the end of the struggle, so he himself surrendered to sin, and after that he refused to do anything but atone for his sin with his blood.
