In the frozen isolation of Barrow, Alaska, telecommunications engineer Ethan Zhao detects a mysterious signal emanating from beneath the ice shelf. The transmission contains a date from 1947 and the haunting message: "e;We still see you."e; When shadowy military contractor Vargas arrives unexpectedly, Ethan and local Inuit survivalist Mia Inuksuk realize they've stumbled onto something far beyond a routine communications upgrade. Their investigation leads them deep beneath the Arctic ice where they discover an abandoned Cold War listening post and its sole survivor Viktor Abramovich, who has maintained a lonely vigil for seventy-five years. The truth emerges: in 1947, six men were secretly stationed to monitor unusual signals, only to discover an ancient gateway to another dimension. Two scientists, Petrov and Cohen, crossed through decades ago and have been waiting for the right moment to establish contact.
