At one time, it was possible that the Moroccan Jewish community in Israel could transform from a numerical fact into a political fact, especially with regard to the shared historical heritage of Moroccan Judaism, whose presence is not limited to Israel-where the largest number currently resides-or to Morocco, the homeland of the ancestors. What is certain is that Moroccan Jews in Israel constitute a political and cultural phenomenon. While their mass immigration to Israel in the 1960s occurred quietly, the arrival of this overwhelming mass of people into an independent society with its own structures, mechanisms, and rules caused disruption within that society. This book provides information that brings us closer to understanding the attachment of Moroccan Jews, wherever they may be, to the homeland of their fathers and grandfathers, given their abundant and diverse human memories, capable of being enriched and expanded.
