Mind's Eye

Set during the short, dark days of a Michigan winter in the mid '90's, the story takes us into the mind of Dr. Ivan Weiss, a gifted, but troubled, psychoanalyst. Weiss' life is disintegrating. His daughter was recently raped, worries about his wife's fidelity, which had plagued him in the past, are resurfacing, and the clinic he directs is facing a sexual harassment charge. When his wife disappears, leaving an enigmatic note, and his daughter goes missing, his world totally flies apart. The story ranges from the quiet of a psychoanalytic consulting room in Ann Arbor to the south of France to a police chase in the devastated areas of downtown Detroit, many years before its recent rebirth. It has the initial appearance of a compelling mystery story, but as the story develops, the reader discovers that it is really about deep universal human issues which are at the heart of all enduring literature. It is about the lives and passions of several psychoanalysts, their families and their patients, in a Midwest college town. I eagerly await his next novel.
